Flip Off Challenge
Back in July 2022, a group of South Coast Changemakers decided they had had enough. Conscious of the negative mental health consequences of their social media use, these 10 young people decided to take direct action to improve their mental health and prove a point to their peers by giving up what many consider to be essential these days - their smartphones!
For two weeks, this inspiring group of young people switched from smartphones to flip phones, and chronicled their experiences through daily video diaries, journalling and self reflection. All of them noticed a huge difference in their sense of wellbeing, finding more time to pursue meaningful connection or just sit in the silence...
Now it's time to turn up the volume!!
Sonder Youth is bringing back the Flip Off Challenge as an always on opportunity to allow you to participate when it works for you! This change means that there are no age limits, no cap on the number of participants, and no limits to the change that we can affect in our community!
The Basics:
28 day commitment - the first 14 days allow you time to fundraise and prepare for the challenge, and then:
14 days using your Sonder Youth flip phone!
1 flip phone with a SIM converter for modern nano SIMS
1 Flip Off daily reflective journal
1 mega supportive community
In order to create an even bigger impact in our community, we are asking all of our 2024 Flip Off Challenge participants to raise funds for Sonder Youth. In fundraising for the Flip Off Challenge, you will be supporting the great work that Sonder Youth is privileged to be able to do through the Changemakers Program and South Coast Changemakers Forum. The fundraising itself is very simple - when you are ready to take on the Flip Off Challenge, simply click the link below and you will be taken to the Flip Off Challenge signup page.
