Global Changemaker Itinerary
Day 1 is all about travel. We will travel from Australia to Hanoi airport where we will be met by our in-country guides from Red Lotus. From there we will all transfer to our accommodation in the centre of Hanoi. This evening will be all about settling in, getting to know the city and each other.
Welcome to Vietnam! Today is all about getting to know the country where we will be spending the next 10 days. We will have a language and customs workshop with Hoai, our in-country coordinator, we will visit a war museum in the city, visit a pagoda, night markets and be challenged in a scavenger hunt designed to test your new knowledge and dive into the deep end of Vietnamese culture.
Today we will escape the city to travel to the beautiful town of Mai Chau in the mountains where we will see a brand new side to Vietnam. This area is known for its tranquility and rural way of life. We will have the opportunity to have a home cooked lunch with an ethnic minority group, ride bicycles through the local rice fields and learn about rural life in a village homestay. Sonder Workshop 1.
Bidding farewell to the mountains we will travel south to Hoa Binh to learn about a more spiritual side of Vietnam. Here we will take a ferry ride across the great Hoa Binh lake to three different temples and pagodas. Our in-country guide will help us to understand the role spirituality plays in Vietnamese culture and help us to navigate this stunning region. In the evening we will travel to Ba Vi ready for the next five days at the centre. Sonder Workshop 2.
Today we will begin our experience with the Helping Hands Vietnam Charity at the Ba Vi disability centre. The morning will include an introduction to the centre where you will meet the staff and residents, and learn about our role in the centre for the next few days. After lunch back at the guest house we will spend the afternoon working in the centre. The evening will include group and individual debriefs of the day.
We will spend our second full day working at the centre and will begin our study of social impact and Helping Hands Vietnam. After lunch at the guest house and Sonder Workshop 3 we will have free time in the evening.
Today we spend the morning at the centre before heading out to a local surprise organised by our friends at Red Lotus. This is a chance to get to know the in-country staff better and to learn their stories and way of life. We will also get the chance to explore some more of the beautiful area of Ba Vi. We will have lunch as a big group with all the staff before heading back to the centre for Sonder Workshop 4 in the evening.
Working at the centre today, we will have the chance to participate in ‘Dance Day’ at the centre with the children and see another side to life in the Ba Vi centre. In the evening we will have group and individual debriefs and set some goals for the final few days of the trip.
Our final day the centre. This morning we will spend our morning saying our goodbyes before heading back to Hanoi for the afternoon. In Hanoi we will have group and individual debriefs before heading to a big group dinner.
